A Moment of Peace

It’s astonishing how fleeting life is. I watched the sun set a moment ago. Happening to pass by a window leading upstairs, I glimpsed the most intense fuchsia caught in the heavy clouds. It burned bright against the grey tops already within evening’s shade. Immediately, I ran to find a window facing westward. All I could do was stare at this little hidden treasure of the day. The beauty of our world will always have my love. I’m ensnared by it’s call every time I hear it. But when I tried to take a photo of the sky, the color had already faded. Not completely, but enough to notice the intensity was burning out. I tried one or two more pictures, then simply watched and waited. Faster than fair, the deep pink that stained the clouds washed away, and evening settled in.
The world’s quick pace stuns me sometimes. It waits for no creature. Even when baring the most beautiful views imaginable, it does not boast. It sets and settles into the tranquility of nighttime without so much as a word. I can’t help but see God’s grace reflected by this. His timing does not wait for us. Whether we are ready or not—even if we desperately wish the sun would stay up for just a moment longer—night settles, and God continues to unfold the path beneath our feet. The beauty in this lies with the fact that I don’t feel left behind by Him or the world. Instead, I’m excited to see the next wonder brought my way. Because while we can try, a photograph can’t completely capture the wild allure of the sunset. Only when we see it for ourselves can we fully appreciate it.
